If you're a car enthusiast and already a fan of the Ugears Dream Cabriolet, Roadster, and U-9 Grand Prix, it's time to make room on your shelf because a thrilling new mechanical model has just joined the illustrious Ugears Automotive collection. Allow us to introduce the Drift Cobra Racing Car—a stunning, two-seat convertible that pays homage to one of the most iconic sports cars of all time, the Shelby Cobra 427.
The original Shelby Cobra 427, manufactured between 1965-67, boasted a 7.0-liter engine with a jaw-dropping 450-510 horsepower. It could accelerate from 0-60 mph in just over 4 seconds and reach an impressive top speed of 185 mph. This legendary car, brought to life by the visionary Carroll Shelby, a former race car driver and automotive designer, was created to challenge Ferrari's dominance in high-performance racing. It's the very same Shelby Cobra that secured four consecutive victories at the prestigious Le Mans 24-hour race between 1966-69, racing in Ford GT40s. This incredible story was recently captured in the Oscar-winning 2019 film, "Ford v Ferrari," with Matt Damon portraying Shelby and Christian Bale as Ken Miles, the renowned driver for Ford's 1966 racing team.
The Shelby Cobra is a true American icon and an embodiment of the muscle car phenomenon—a beloved breed of powerful V8 muscle cars fitted into lightweight, mass-produced, rear-wheel-drive chassis. These cars represent the zenith of American high-performance automobiles and have earned a special place in automotive history, often serving as the subjects of countless posters and dreams.
Muscle cars were designed for drag racing but were street-legal, offering astonishing power at an affordable price. Their rarity today and the staggering auction prices they command can be attributed in part to the fact that they often exceeded their owners' driving capabilities, leading to frequent accidents. Many muscle cars have battled in illegal street races, with ownership papers sometimes at stake (an additional incentive to win or lose your muscle car!). So, why not gather your model-building friends, display your newly assembled Ugears Drift Cobra Racing Cars, and put your model car crafting skills to the test in a thrilling race for glory. However, remember the first rule of Ugears race club: you do not talk about Ugears race club. The second rule of Ugears race club: you do not talk about Ugears race club!
Propelled by a formidable spring motor, the Ugears Drift Cobra Racing Car boasts the most potent mechanical engine of any wooden model. Wind it up using the ratchet knob beneath the chassis, shift the air filter toward the windshield, and set the switch in front of the passenger-side seat to the Lock position (parallel to the door). Now, give the ratchet under the car's body about 6 to 6.5 turns, and the spring will be fully loaded—vroom! vroom! Your racer is ready to roar! Adjust the gear shift lever, situated between the driver and passenger seats, to your desired setting (Reverse, Neutral, Drive). To set your model in motion, place it on a flat surface, slide the air filter forward, and watch your Cobra either spin out (start with the wheels turned to one side), perform thrilling circles, or accelerate down the track in a straight line.
